Congresswoman Nan Hayworth is not like we the people.
In her very first vote as our representative, Ms. Hayworth voted against the will of the people by voting to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Polls overwhelmingly show that the public wants to enhance and improve the act, not repeal it. Residents of the Hudson Valley want to be able to pay for prescriptions, want to be able to get insurance when they have a pre-existing condition, want to be able to insure their children up to age 26, and much more. What is particularly ironic is that while Congresswoman Hayworth was voting to deny health care benefits for all of us, a majority of her fellow representatives were gladly accepting the federal, taxpayer funded, health insurance offered to all members of the House.
Congresswoman Hayworth recently stated, as reported in this article, “…the best thing the federal government can do is stop trying to create jobs.” Throughout the history of our nation, it has been collaborations between the private and public sectors which have led to massive job creation. What Ms. Hayworth doesn’t seem to understand is that “government jobs” provide the necessary services for private business to function. Would she suggest doing without our highway system, public transportation, our police, and the education of future workers? And she ignores that fact that Job #1 for private industry is to maximize profits, and nowadays that largely means sending our jobs overseas. The solution isn’t to give businesses free reign; no, the solution is to get government, business and organized labor working together to create an economic environment in the Hudson Valley which is fertile for sustained and responsible job creation and economic growth.
